Hand Quilting for both the novice and those wanting to improve their quilting techniques. Included will be a discussion of the effects of different threads, fabrics and battings on the hand quilting process; an assortment of marking methods, quilting designs, tools, basting, the basic quilting stitch, faux and traditional stuffed trapunto, and cording. Everything you ever wanted to know about needles and thread, but were afraid to ask. Are you baffled by the extensive selections of threads and needles available to quilters when you are shopping? Do you get confused about what needle you should use with what thread? Do you feel like every time you turn around another new thread has been introduced into the market? We will attempt to demystify your questions and concerns. Lecture includes an extensive handout with comparison tables. The answer is Now that you are a quilter, do you ever wish that you had learned math back in high school or college. Learn the quick and easy tricks from a USC math professor, (ya, that’s what I do when I’m not quilting). The geometry of quilting is broken down into just a few easy formulas that can be done on a simple calculator. Math doesn’t have to be the boring subject now that you have a real use for the knowledge and it really can be fun. If your guild or shop is within 150 miles of Columbia, SC, no lodging will be required, except in the event of bad weather, but mileage is required at the current federal rate.
